Velma P. Nichols, 87, of 1020 St. Rt. 78 West, Malta, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 17, 2012 at her home near Ringgold.
She was born June 8, 1925 near Rosseau in Morgan County, OH, a daughter of the late Mahlon and Forest Glass Parsons.
She was a 1943 graduate of Homer-Union High School. She resided in Akron, OH, for a short time during World War II, contributing to the War Effort and working at the Goodyear Plant. She worked with her husband in farming and operating Nichols Auto Sales for many years near Ringgold. She was a dedicated mother to her children, giving special time and attention to her daughter, Kristy.
She married Paul V. Nichols on September 12, 1944.
She is survived by four children, daughter, Kathy (Larry) McLaughlin of McConnelsville, and three sons, Curtis (Pat) Nichols of Marietta, Kent (Belinda) Nichols of Roseville, and Craig (Carla) Nichols of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Scott McLaughlin, Melinda (Keith) Taylor, Bethany (Paul) Downard, Brad Nichols, Bryan (Andrea) Nichols, Jason (Stephanie) Nichols, Julie (Jason) Bankes, and Ben Holschuh; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Verna Grubbs of Glouster.
She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her most recent caregiver, Brenda Parmiter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul V. Nichols on September 14, 1999; a daughter, Kristy S. Nichols on June 6, 2008; a sister, Lila Allison; two brothers, Leonard Parsons and Malcolm Parsons; and two infant siblings.
Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Sept. 19, at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville, where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. She will be laid to rest next to her husband and daughter in Maplewood Cemetery near Glouster.
