Obituary

Wayne Eugene Dew, 89, of Malta passed away Sunday November 27,2011 at 8:25 a.m. at the Highland Oaks Health Center of McConnelsville following a long illness. He was born June 20,1922 in Morgan County, Ohio the oldest child of Loren Austin and Estella Mae (VanHorn) Dew.

He attended Ringgold Elementary School and graduated with the Class of 1940 from Homer-Union High School. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII, proudly serving our country in the European Theater, from 1942 - 1945 receiving many medals and was discharged with the rank of staff sergent. Upon his return from WWII he worked for Janes Equipment Company, did custom bailing for many years, was a mechanic for the L & L Motor Sales and parts manager for Blair, Bill Janes, Phil Wise and Leroy Gutberlet Chevrolet Agencies in McConnelsville, retiring in 1992 from Gutberlet Chevrolet following 37 1/2 years of service. He married Dorothy Louise Lane September 26,1956 who survives. Mr Dew was a charter member of the Pennsville Volunteer Fire Dept., life member of the American Legion Post #24 and Malta V.F.W. Post 4713, the Morgan County Farm Bureau, past member of the Deerfield Grange and an active and faithful member of the Seventh Street Church of Christ, McConnelsville. He drove the church van and bus for many years and was the church treasurer for more than 36 years. He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, gardening and yard work with his John Deere Lawn Tractor. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, 2 sisters Elma Wollard and Phyllis (Ronald) Hambel both of Zanesville, a brother Ralph Lee Dew of Zanesville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, 3 brothers, Dalton Dean, Clyde R., and Edward A. Dew, 1 sister Linda K. Totman and sisters-in-law Lura Hanson Dew and Gaile Kester Dew preceeded him in death.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 29,2011 from 4:00-7:00 pm. at the Seventh Street Church of Christ in McConnelsville where funeral services will be held Wednesday November 30,2011 at 1:30 p.m. with Evangelists Sam Bartrug and Randy Baker officiating. Burial will be in McConnelsville Cemetery with full military rites by the Morgan County Veterans.
