Amy Charlene French, 62, of Poplar Ridge Road, Malta, lost a valiant fight with cancer Thursday evening, May 18, 2023, at the home of her parents. She was born on February 11, 1961 in Phoenix, Arizona, where her father was serving in the United States Air Force. Amy was the beloved daughter of Harold Dean “Frenchee” and Alice Helen “Sally” (Click) French. She graduated from Morgan High School in 1979, where she played saxophone in the Morgan Raider Marching Band. She also graduated from Rio Grande College in 1984, with a Degree in Social Work. She was a member of Zeta Theta Chi Sorority. Amy was a strong advocate for disadvantaged and developmentally disabled people. She was very family oriented and loved camping in Hungry Mother State Park in Virginia each summer for the French Family reunion. She was also very close to her Click family. Amy was preceded in death by her dear brother, Roger Dean French on June 26, 2020. Also preceding her in death was her uncle, Everett “Joe” Click, as well as her grandparents Everett and Eileen Click and Thomas and Docia French. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her Godson, John Hoyt; her nephew, Evan Dean French; her sister-in-law, Jenifer French; a half-sister, Jackie Cullop; a half-brother, Johnny French; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Also surviving is her beloved dog, Murphy. Amy requested she be cremated. A memorial funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, in the Malta United Methodist Church, with Pastor David Brown officiating. Calling hours will be held from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Roger French Memorial Scholarship Fund. Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville has the honor of serving the French family.
