Barbara Lee Cunningham

Barbara Lee (Ferrebee) Cunningham, also affectionately known as Bobbi by a select few, 83, of Stockport, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her childhood home on April 28 at 7:21 am.  On November 14, 1938, she was born in Beverly, Ohio, to the late James and Eileen (Bachelor) Ferrebee. She attended Windsor School in Stockport, Ohio. Following her graduation in 1956, she attended Southern Beauty Academy in Athens, Ohio, subsequently passing the Ohio State Cosmetology Board. As a cosmetologist, she received her license as a shop manager. Although she was out of his league, she married her high school sweetheart, Chet Cunningham, on September 10, 1957. Barb put her cosmetology career on hold to join her husband in his military career in The United States Air Force from 1957 and returned to Stockport in 1976. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage while raising their two fine boys, Marc and Steve, to become two great men.  Upon returning, she owned and operated her first beauty salon in Stockport, Ohio, later partnering with her dear friend, Phyllis Stanley, at their salon in Chesterhill, Ohio. Barb and Phyllis humbly ministered to local nursing home residents for many years. Chet and Barb have been active members of the Stockport Church of Christ for 45 years. During this time, she taught vacation bible school and Sunday school and provided meals to numerous families, alongside her dearest friend since childhood, Ginny Wallace. Ginny and Barb rarely missed a daily walk or talk. Barb and Ginny were inseparable. In the last days of Barb’s life, their mutual love, affection, and friendship, which was greater than sisterhood, was unwavering. Barb’s family extends our deepest sympathy and gratitude to Ginny for this undying love and care during Barb’s lifetime.  Barb was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jim and Eileen, and her beloved Grandma B. She is survived by her husband, Chet, and two sons, Marc (Jill) and Steve (Christa); her sister Sue Roberts (John McCoy) of Harrison, IN; her grandchildren Joni, Zachary, Shara, Robert, Randi, Stevi, Tyler, and Travis; great-grandchildren Grey, Taylor, Joel, Johannes, Esmae, Mason, Jonathan, Paige, Landon, Colton, Jordan, Zoey, Stetson, Kobie, Kayson, Odin, Jaycee, Rayna, Ryder, Bryson, Brenlee and Aryah; and four nephews, Tony, Randy, Ryan, and Dusty Stroud. Special thanks to Strecker Cancer Center, Dr. Kelli Cawley, her staff, and Home Health and Hospice of MMH.  Services will be held at Stockport Church of Christ on Monday, May 2, 2022.  Calling hours will be from 10-12, with services beginning at noon—arrangements made by Matheny Funeral Home in McConnelsville, Ohio.  Pastor Mike Snyder, officiating, and Associate Pastor Greg Marquis, graveside. Burial will follow at Stockport Cemetery.  Make contributions to Mary’s House, P.O.
