Columbus C. Cheadle, Jr., known to many as “Jr”, departed his ancestral Cheadle Farm for his home in heaven on 7.12.22. He was born in 1938 to Columbus C. Cheadle, Sr, and Marie (Wolfe) Cheadle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years, Wilda (Johnson) Cheadle and by two grandsons, Jason and Kyle Wilson. He is survived by a daughter, Barbi Cheadle; a son, Tim Cheadle; a step-daughter, Earline Arnott; and a step-son Kenneth Wilson; four grandchildren, Adrianja (Noah) Albrecht, Caleb Cheadle, Sasha (Josh) Lee and Chad (Bridget) Wilson; and four great-grandchildren, Kylin, Parker and Avery Lee and Bristol Wilson; 8 cows and his faithful dog, Hank. In addition to being a caring and involved father and grandfather, Jr. was a man of service to his country and community. During the Vietnam War, he served stateside in the Army’s 123rd Maintenance Division. After being honorably discharged, he continued as a mechanic by building a garage on the family farm and starting his own small business, Cheadle’s Garage, until he retired “because the computers took over”. He was widely known in the area as a competent and clever mechanic who was honest, reliable and fair in all that he did. Jr. further served his community as an elected official, Windsor Township Trustee, for more than thirty years. His service did not end there, he was an active member of his church serving as an usher, Sunday School Superintendent and Board Member. Jr. shared the bounty of his gardens and occasionally, his wildlife, with his community. Many also enjoyed the bounty of his sense of humor and general orneriness. He cared deeply and he will be greatly missed! A visitation will be held on Sun, July 17 2022 at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville from 2-4 and 5-7pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 18 at 11:00 A.M. at the Cross Church on 1122 Market St. in Parkersburg with a viewing 1 hour prior to the service.
