Francis Mummey Obituary

Francis Eugene Mummey

Our sweet Dad passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family at 9:39 am on the morning of April 25th just shy of his 98th birthday.  He was born May 18, 1926 in Malta, Ohio to Evelyn Sears Mummey and Forrest Leroy Mummey.  His mother passed away 2 weeks after his birth and he was raised by his grandparents and his special aunt Ella (Mummey) O’Neal on the family farm.  He joined the service in the army division in the 40’s and last served in the horrendous battle in the Philippines.   He was very proud of serving his country but he would tell you that it wasn’t any fun being shot at.  Dad married our mom, Reva Darlene Hancher the 16th of October, 1949 and together they had 6 children.   They were devoted to each other and their family for over 72 years.    Their children include deceased daughter, Krista Annette Mummey; Marla Mummery and her son John Robert; Carla Darling, her husband Bill, and son James Zachary Barkhurst, Gary Mummey (fiancé Darla Linscott) and his daughters, Heather Rutter, husband Jimmy, their kids Lexie Weaver ( Brady), daughters, Araya and Blake, Hallee, (daughter Jade) and  Jymma; Heath Mummey, children, Caden, Carson and Madison ( son Hayes); Heidi Kidd ( Todd) children, Makayla and Mackenzie: Jeff Mummey ( deceased) and his daughters, Cassie Skinner ( Brandon) daughters , Sydney and Taytum and Kacy Mummey, daughters, Stella Kay and Wrenley Ray;  Kim Bragg ( Tim) sons Derek Bragg( Nicci), children Sophie, Emma and Tyler and son, Cody.  Their family included 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.  After leaving the service Dad went to school in Annapolis Maryland where he learned his trade in electronics and returned to Zanesville working for a television repair company.  He eventually started his own business known as M&M Electronics in Morgan County.  In the 60’s he opened a location in McConnelsville where he sold and serviced televisions, stereos and satellites.   He worked his business for close to 50 years.  Everyone loved our dad.  He was a hard worker all of his life, very kind, ornery, giving and would help anyone in need.   At 92 years old he was still driving his tractor 2 miles away to mow land belonging to a childhood family friend that had passed many years ago.  Dad cherished his family and loved our family dinners together.  He was a Christian man and member of Mt. Olivet Church in Stockport.  We feel so blessed to have had such a wonderful man in our lives and we will cherish his memory forever.   We celebrate his passing to continue his journey with our mother and son Jeff. We give special thanks to Shrivers Hospice and especially our precious Karlie Drake and Angela Anderson, our friends and caregivers, Crystal Clemens, Ashley Oliver and Kathy Dille.  In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to Shrivers Hospice Foundation or the American Legion Color Guard.  Services will be held on Mon, April 29, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville, with burial following in the Fairview Cemetery.  Friends may call on the Family from 1-3 P.M. on the day of the services.  To send a note of condolence to the family go to www.matheneyfh.com.
