James W Riggs

James W. Riggs, 78, of Stockport, Ohio, passed away on Jan. 15, 2023 at the Highland Oaks Nursing Home in McConnelsville.  He was born on July 5, 1944 in Alloway, N.J. to the late James B. and Gertrude Dye Riggs.  He worked as a social Service Director at the City of Angels Medical Center, Los Angeles Ca.  Jim graduated from Huntington High School in 1963 after transferring from St. Marys.  He enlisted in the Navy, serving on the Destroyer, USS Jenkins during the Vietnam War.  After retirement Jim fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a cottage by the river, nurturing his chickens and pets.  His parents and a half-brother, Eddy Barnhart precede him in death.  He is survived by 2 sisters, Judy Ballard Crawford of St. Marys and Suellen (Gale) Riggs of St. Marys, a brother Jack Riggs of Franklin, Ga, a half-brother, Mike (Anita) Barnhart of Friendly, WVa.  We as a family would like to express our gratitude for the graciousness of April and Jeremiah Johnson, Jim’s Stockport friends for their love, care and friendship for our brother.  A visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023 from 5-7 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville.  To send a note of condolence to the family go to www.matheneyfh.com.
