John Jay Metcalf, of Chesterhill, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021 at the Riverside Landing Nursing Home in McConnelsville. He was born on Aug. 6, 1934, the son of Clark Emmett and Ethel Ellis Metcalf in Chesterhill. John served with the U.S. Navy in active service from 1952 to 1956 on board the USS Coral Sea CVA-43 and the USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt CVA-42 aircraft carriers. He was a member of the Tabor Ridge Church of Christ and served several years as an elder. He worked for several companies in the area as an oil field producer retiring in 2000 and was then elected as a Marion Township Trustee in 2001. He was a member of the American Legion Post #24 in McConnelsville and the NRA. He leaves behind his loving wife, Dorothy Pettit Metcalf, 3 children, John Clark Metcalf of Glouster, Brian Kent (Debbie) Metcalf of Glouster and a daughter Kellie Tobin of Racine, a step-son, Todd A. (Andrea) Smith of Zanesville, a sister, Anna Dick of Shelby, 5 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a nephew, a great niece and his constant companions Chubby and Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Lucille Moore. A service will be held on Tues, Aug. 17, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at the Tabor Ridge Church of Christ with burial following in the Tabor Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call on the family on Mon, Aug 16 from 6-8 P.M. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
