Joretta Hildegarde Jackson (nee Mayle), 88, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022 at the Symphony of Olmsted Falls, OH. She was born on Jan. 3, 1933 in Cutler to the late Vernon J. and Mable A. (nee Tabler) Mayle. She worked 40 years as a nurse. First as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Mount Carmel School of Nursing in 1971 before eventually retiring in 1995 from Mount Carmel (West) Hospital in Columbus. In retirement she enjoyed her grandchildren, family, traveling with her husband and getting together with her retired nurse friends. She was an active member of the Christian Assembly church. Joretta was a “mom” to everyone she met. She was a very caring person which defined her career choice of nursing as her true calling. She was the person the family looked to for medical advice and support. She tended to her father, brothers and sisters, sons, daughters and nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors and made sure they received the best possible care. She was the loving mother of daughter Karen E. Jackson of Charlotte, NC, sons George R. “Rick” (Elfie Roman) Jackson, Jr of Mentor, OH, James B. “Brian” (Trish) Jackson of Fairview Park, OH, Mark D. (Lisa) Jackson of Powell, OH, 11 grandchildren Dawn, Jeremy, Laura, Dorin, Tim, Alexis, Joe, Josh, Dana, Annie, and Ben, 9 great grandchildren, sisters Dolly (Gary) Thomas, Norma Saffold, Carol Patterson, Vicki (Willie) Wright, Joy (Eddie) Allen, step sister Melba (Harry) Watkins and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband of 49 years George R. Jackson, 2 brothers Doran and Dana and sister Lillian White. Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Southland Mission Church 13418 St. Rt. 555 Cutler, 45724, presided by Nelson Myers with burial following in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 12 to 2 P.M. at the Southland Mission Church. Funeral arrangement provided by Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill. The family would like to thank all of mom’s care givers over the years.
