Shelli Lewis Obituary

Life is a beautiful albeit complex story. A story that has universal beginnings and ends across each and every one of us.  The measure of the meaning to these stories is rooted in the body of the lives we live and those we touch along the way!  While great pain comes from announcing Shelli Lewis’s 60-year story came to a close March 30th 2023, the beautiful story she wrote in that short time will forever endear her in the memories of the ones who loved her!  Shelli’s story began on Christmas Eve 1962.  The first-born child of the late Mendel and Karen Smith would share a warm, loving, and welcoming home in Malta, OH with her 3 brothers Andrew, Matthew, and Sam Smith as well as her 2 sisters Lori Work and Jenni Beattey.  Over her next 18 years she would grow in the love and warmth of her Malta home, all the while preparing to write her next chapter.  The chapter of Mom.  She would welcome Ashley Lewis(Josh Cross) in the first sentences of her mom chapter.  As she continued her beautiful story she welcomed a rambunctious but loving baby boy Brandon Offenberger(Trinity Offenberger) and shortly after a beautiful and thoughtful daughter Amanda Jo Burkett(Shawn Burkett).  Together with Brian “Roxie” Offenberger she wrote paragraph after paragraph of love, compassion, understanding and values with her 3 wonderful children.  She would do everything in her power to insure her greatest accomplishments we provided everything they needed day in and day out to help them begin to write their own stories.  As years passed and her journey took her down many paths, her love, generosity, and kindness prepared her well for what we would be sure she would call her proudest chapter, Mamaw!  Her bond with her grandchildren Ashton “Bugs” Offenberger, Mia Offenberger, and Gracie Burkett was steeped in love, pride, and a true sense of privilege she took in being called Mamaw.  While she will never have the opportunity to be Mamaw to the newest additions to her family tree, there is no doubt that they will know her through the love, faith, and fortitude she instilled in everyone she cared about.

While Shelli’s story has come to a close, there is so much joy through the pain of the ones she left behind.  Her life, while short was written with love, edited with compassion, and published with the principals of the true and genuine person she was.  Yes, its true each story begins and ends identically and in this Shelli was no different.  However, Shelli ensured her legacy of daughter, mom, mamaw, and friend would be remembered for generations to come through the body of the story that was her wonderful life.  This would be her greater purpose.  While we still yearn to hear her tell it with her trademark “TURR” we know, without a doubt, she was so incredibly proud of each and every story she helped each of us to write!  Services will be held on Mon, April 3, 2023 at 6:00 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville.  Friends may call on the family from 4-6 P.M. on the day of the services.
