Thomas Mays Obituary

Thomas Alvin Mays, 81, of McConnelsville went home to be with Jesus on Weds, Feb. 21, 2024 surrounded by his family.  He was born on Dec. 23, 1942 in New England W.Va. to the late Alvin B. and Alice E. Camp Mays.  He served his country in the US Navy and after serving he started his career as an Electrician retiring from Owens Corning in Newark.  After retirement he continued in several different positions, delivering boxes, cars, candy, mattresses and people.  Tom was really a master of all trades.  He did all of his own home improvement projects, including plumbing, construction and maintenance.  He had many hobbies including working on cars.  He loved traveling, camping and spending time with his family, he was a loving and faithful father.  He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carolyn E. St. Clair Mays of the home, 3 daughters, Allison Wilson of Dayton, Evelyn (James) Borders of Mt. Vernon and Teresa Hague of Fredericktown, step-son, Paul (Davia) Johnson of Racine, 3 sisters, Ina VanMeter of Tuppers Plains, Karen White of Proctorville and Avice Spencer of Bashan, 10 grandchildren, Adam, Arika, Brett, Danielle, Andrea, Jenna, Zoe, Zack, Randy and Ethan, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and the mother of his children, Patty Hauger of Mt. Vernon.  He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Mays and a son-in-law Terry Hague.  Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville is handling a caring cremation at the family’s request.  A memorial service will be announced at a later date.  To send a note of condolence to the family go to www.matheneyfh.com.
